Dear Members

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed an increasing number of email communications circulating among the Sailing community which are questioning whether World Sailing are the International Federation for Kiteboarding. This has been sparked by a IFKO (International Federation of Kitesports Organisations) which is not recognised by the IOC, ASOIF, SportAccord or AIMS attempting to make a claim over the governance of Kiteboarding on the water.  IFKO have been misleading the Kiteboarding community and went as far as to put on their recent General Assembly agenda:

  • Presentation, definition and discussion of the Kitesports discipline proposals brought by IFKO members, as required to be present in the Youth Olympic Games 2018 Buenos Aires
  • Voting to choose the YOG Kitesports discipline.

I am enclosing two letters, one from the IOC and one from ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) which we received last week and were also sent to IFKO that firmly clarify that World Sailing are the International Federation responsible for all forms of Kiteboarding on water.

World Sailing remains in active dialogue with all of the legitimate Kiteboarding organisations and we look forward to your support in this matter.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions relating to this matter.

Kind regards,

Andy Hunt
Chief Executive Officer
